Before the downfall of the Berlin Wall, the West Germany's government had already begun a systematic documentation of every crime and atrocity committed by the East German communist regime. Doing so had a great intimidating effect on the thugs of the communist regime. Doing so also had a positive educational effect on the people who lived in free countries. --- Kai Chen
As I walked through the Holocaust Museum in Berlin, I realized how little the museum has documented on the crimes and atrocities of the Nazi regime (though they are still in the process of documenting more). It is much due to the fact that the Nazi regime had effectively covered its own tracks in committing those crimes. And it is also because many victims and their relatives have since passed away and not many have remained to tell the stories.
Then it hit me how important it is to systematically document all the crimes and atrocities committed by the Chinese communist regime throughout its history. We must undertake this important task because people who know and who have suffered under the evil communist regime start to die out naturally.
These personal stories must be told. Communist crimes must be documented. And the ones who are responsible must be brought to trial and punished. Taiwan government must have the moral clarity and courage in undertaking such an important and meaningful task, much like what the West German government had done. Hereby I call upon the Taiwan government, be it under DPP or Kuomingtang, to immediately establish a "Communism's Victims Memorial Foundation" and undertake the task to systematically document every crime and atrocity the communist regime on the mainland has committed.
I hope one day a "Communism's Victim's Memorial-Museum" will be built on the mainland China to commemorate those who died and suffered under communism, and to educate all the people in the world never to forget what happened, and never to repeat history.
This is the least the Taiwan government can do to assert their moral position. This is a must. We must say: "Never Again."
